Last weekend on Friday 9 May we drove down to the Biesbosch National Park south of Rotterdam and rented a canoe for a few hours of canoeing.

We arrived at the Dordrecht visitor center (one of three in the Biesbosch) shortly after they opened at 9:00 in the morning. It was another hot and sunny day so we expected it to be crowded, but we were the first ones there and the first to rent a canoe.

The area is a reserve for beavers, but we didn’t see any. We also didn’t see many birds besides a few ducks and this Song Thrush:

When we came back most of the canoes were gone and there was a huge line at the boat house. Good thing we came early!
