This is my favorite picture of the week. Woody from Toy Story watches Space Shuttle Discovery lifting off on May 31st with Buzz Lightyear onboard, finally fulfilling the toy’s dream of going into space. The 12-inch action figure is visiting the International Space Station this week along on mission STS-124 as part of a new educational partnership between NASA and the Walt Disney Company and to commemorate the opening of Toy Story Mania! at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
Disney’s Youth Educational Series and NASA have developed an online program known as the Space Ranger Education Series. It includes fun educational games for students, as well as materials for educators to download and integrate into their classroom curriculum.

Since 1985, NASA’s Toys in Space project has used toys flown aboard the shuttle and the International Space Station to help children learn science and mathematics.
Veteran astronaut Buzz Aldrin personally trained Buzz Lightyear for this important mission:
Buzz Lightyear will return home with the crew of STS-126, on the space shuttle Endeavour, which is scheduled to launch no earlier than November 10th.

Very creative way how to motivate children to learn. Children use to be demotivated and you always have to figure out new ways to teach them. It is like dogs and pills 🙂 you always have to pack the pill into a piece of ham, or cheese 🙂 And when you have children, you have to pack educating into fun 🙂
