Great Sand Dunes, Colorado
This photo at Great Sand Dunes National Monument was taken on 3 September 2004. On this two-week roadtrip with Amy’s parents, we drove from Chicago to Colorado and back (see our photoalbum for more photos of this trip).
These are North America’s tallest dunes. They rise over 750 feet high against the rugged Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This geologic wonderland, containing over 30 square miles of massive dunes, became a national monument in 1932.
