Mesa Verde, Colorado
This photo at Mesa Verde National Park was taken on 6 September 2004. On this two-week roadtrip with Amy’s parents, we drove from Chicago to Colorado and back (see our photoalbum for more photos of this trip).
From approximately A.D. 600 through A.D. 1300 people lived and flourished in communities throughout this area, eventually building elaborate stone villages in the sheltered alcoves of the canyon walls. These cliff dwellings represent the last 75 to 100 years of occupation at Mesa Verde.
